Texture development and properties of Ti-IF steels produced by different hot-rolling processes

Texture is a pivotal factor for the deep drawability of interstitial free steel (IF steel). The evolution of microstructure and recrystallization texture of Ti-IF steel through the processing of hot rolling, cold rolling and annealing have been studied. The mechanical properties including strain hardening index n and plastic strain ratio r are also measured. For comparison, ferrite rolling and austenite rolling are both studied. The results show that the intensity of γ-fiber after ferrite rolling is higher than that after austenite rolling. The great balance between the {111}〈110〉 and {111}〈112〉 leads to low △r value after annealing. The size of precipitates in ferrite rolled sample is generally larger than that in austenite rolled sample. Compared to austenite rolled sample, the ferrite rolled and annealed one has better formability and its r value reaches 2.36. Different from laboratory production, the test steels were acquired from industrial trial, and all the result can be used in industrial production directly. 展开更多

As the process parameters of pilger cold-rolled seamless steel tubes are basically based on experience leading to the generation of defects, 304 stainless steel was chosen and the important process parameters including the feed, rotation angle and Q value (the ratio of the length of the deformation section to that of the finishing section) were selected to analyze the effect of different process parameters on the tube forming process and rules. The results show that during the cold rolling process, the rolling force, the equivalent stress of the tube, the residual stress and the springback of the external diameter increased with the increase in the feed rate and the rotation angle and the decrease in Q value. Increasing the feed quantity and decreasing Q value will lead to the decrement in the roundness of the pipe. After comprehensive evaluation of the advantages and disadvantages, a set of optimal parameters are selected to carry out the experiment. The residual stress and the outer diameter of the finished products were measured. The results of the measurement and the numerical simulation results are within reasonable range, and the accuracy of the numerical simulations and the influence of the process parameters on the pilger cold rolling are further verified. 展开更多

The dynamic deformation behaviors and resultant microstructural variations during high-speed rolling(HSR) of a Mg alloy with a non-basal texture are investigated. To this end, AZ31 alloy samples in which the basal poles of most grains are predominantly aligned parallel to the transverse direction(TD) are subjected to hot rolling with different reductions at a rolling speed of 470 m/min. The initial grains with a TD texture are favorable for {10–12} twinning under compression along the normal direction(ND);as a result, {10–12} twins are extensively formed in the material during HSR, and this consequently results in a drastic evolution of texture from the TD texture to the ND texture and a reduction in the grain size. After the initial grains are completely twinned by the {10–12} twinning mechanism, {10–11} contraction twins and {10–11}-{10–12} double twins are formed in the {10–12} twinned grains by further deformation.Since the contraction twins and double twins have crystallographic orientations that are favorable for basal slip during HSR, dislocations easily accumulate in these twins and fine recrystallized grains nucleate in the twins to reduce the increased internal strain energy. Until a rolling reduction of 20%, {10–12}twinning is the main mechanism governing the microstructural change during HSR, and subsequently,the microstructural evolution is dominated by the formation of contraction twins and double twins and the dynamic recrystallization in these twins. With an increase in the rolling reduction, the average grain size and internal strain energy of the high-speed-rolled(HSRed) samples decrease and the basal texture evolves from the TD texture to the ND texture more effectively. As a result, the 80% HSRed sample, which is subjected to a large strain at a high strain rate in a single rolling pass, exhibits a fully recrystallized microstructure consisting of equiaxed fine grains and has an ND basal texture without a TD texture component. 展开更多

The problem of end-face cavity formation in parts produced by cross-wedge rolling was studied in order to reduce material consumption.The cavity depth was measured by the displacemern method.Twenty-one different cases of rolling were analysed by finile element method to determine the effects of process parameters such as the wedge tool angle,the temperature of material,the tool velocity and the reduction ratio on the depth of end-face cavities.Relationships between these parameters are examined in order to establish depe ndencies enabling quick and simple selection of a con cavity allowance in order to remove the cavities.The equations for calculating the con cavity allowance were verified in an experimental process for manufacturing ball pins with the use of flat tools.Rolling tests were performed using a billet with its length selected in compliance with the established dependencies.The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed solution is a viable method for end-face cavity removal. 展开更多

The present perspective proposes to employ such dislocation engineering concept to develop strong and ductile magnesium(Mg) alloys. High density of < c + a > dislocations could be generated at appropriate temperature and retained in the Mg alloy after quenching to room temperature. Those < c + a > dislocations inherited from the warm deformation could provide < c + a > dislocation sources when the Mg alloy is deformed at room temperature, resulting in good ductility. The high dislocation density generated at warm deformation provides dislocation forest hardening, leading to improved yield strength of Mg alloy. 展开更多

The aim of this paper was to investigate the effect of thermal annealing on the microstructure, mechanical properties, and residual stress relaxation of deep rolled pure titanium. The microstructure and mechanical properties of the surface modified layer were analyzed by metallographic microscopy, transmission electron microscope and in-situ tensile testing. The results showed that the annealed near-surface layer with fine recrystallized grains had increased ductility but decreased strength after annealing below the recrystallization temperature, where the tensile strength was still higher than that of the substrate. After annealing at the recrystallization temperature, the recrystallized near-surface layer had smaller grain size,similar tensile strength, and higher proportional limit, comparable to those of the substrate. Moreover, the residual stress relaxation showed evidently different mechanisms at three different temperature regions:low temperature(T≤ 0.2 Tm), medium temperature(T≈(0.2–0.3) Tm), and high temperature(T≥ 0.3 Tm).Furthermore, a prediction model was proposed in terms of modification of Zener-Wert-Avrami model,which showed promise in characterizing the residual stress relaxation in commercial pure Ti during deep rolling at elevated temperature. 展开更多
