Compared with western medicine, there are many complicated factors affecting the intrinsic quality of traditional Chinese medicine, because its production needs to be planted, harvested, processed, transported, stored, and sold, etc. Therefore, the internet of things is integrated into the traceability of traditional Chinese medicine, and its key technologies are studied. An XMLbased traceability information exchange model was constructed for traditional Chinese medicine and modeled the traceability process by the finite state machine (FSM). Furthermore, the specific electronic product code (EPC) coding scheme of traditional Chinese medicine was proposed based on the EPC coding structure model. Finally, the effectiveness of the above models and schemes is verified by an example of a traditional Chinese medicine traceability prototype system. 展开更多

The time management model for event processing in internet of things has a special and important requirement. Many events in real world applications are long-lasting events which have different time granularity with order or out-of-order. The temporal relationships among those events are often complex. An important issue of complex event processing is to extract patterns from event streams to support decision making in real-time. However, current time management model does not consider the unified solution about time granularity, time interval, time disorder, and the difference between workday calendar systems in different organizations. In this work, we analyze the preliminaries of temporal semantics of events. A tree-plan model of out-of-order durable events is proposed. A hybrid solution is correspondingly introduced. A case study is illustrated to explain the time constraints and the time optimization. Extensive experi? mental studies demonstrate the efficiency of our approach. 展开更多

Operating in a body area network around a smartphone user, wearables serve a variety of commercial, medical and personal uses. Depending on a certain smartphone application, a wearable can capture sensitive data about the user and provide critical, possibly life-or-death, functionality. When using wearables, security problems might occur on hardware/software of wearables, connected phone apps or web services devices, or Bluetooth channels used for communication. This paper develops an open source platform called SecuWear for identifying vulnerabilities in these areas and facilitating wearable security research to mitigate them. SecuWear supports the creation, evaluation, and analysis of security vulnerability tests on actual hardwares. Extending earlier results, this paper includes an empirical evaluation that demonstrates proof of concept attacks on commercial wearable devices and shows how SecuWear captures the information necessary for identifying such attacks. Also included is a process for releasing attack and mitigation information to the security community. 展开更多

Radio frequency identification(RFID)enabled retail store management needs workflow optimization to facilitate real-time decision making.In this paper,complex event processing(CEP)based RFID-enabled retail store management is studied,particularly focusing on automated shelf replenishment decisions.We define different types of event queries to describe retailer store workflow action over the RFID data streams on multiple tagging levels(e.g.,item level and container level).Non-deterministic finite automata(NFA)based evaluation models are used to detect event patterns.To manage pattern match results in the process of event detection,optimization algorithm is applied in the event model to share event detection results.A simulated RFID-enabled retail store is used to verify the effectiveness of the method,experiment results show that the algorithm is effective and could optimize retail store management workflow. 展开更多

The Internet of Things promises to offer numerous societal benefits by providing a spectrum of user applications.However,ethical ramifications of adopting such pervasive technology on a society-wide scale have not been adequately considered.Smart things endowed with artificial intelligence may carry out decisions that entail ethical consequences.It is assumed that the functioning of a smart device does not involve any ethical responsibility vis-a-vis its application context.Such a perspective may precipitate situations that endanger essential human values or cause physical or emotional harm.Therefore,it is necessary to consider the design of ethics within intelligent systems to safeguard human interests.In order to address these concerns,we propose a novel method based on Boolean algebra that enables a machine to exhibit varying ethical behaviour by employing the concept of ethics categories and ethics modes.Such enhancement of smart things offers a way to design ethically compliant smart devices and paves way for human friendly technology ecosystems. 展开更多

Following the progression in Internet of Things(IoT)and 5G communication networks,the traditional cloud computing model have shifted to fog computing.Fog computing provides mobile computing,network control and storage to the network edges to assist latency critical and computation-intensive applications.Moreover,security features are improved in fog paradigm by processing critical data on edge devices instead of data centres outside the control plane of users.However,fog network deployment imposes many challenges including resource allocation,privacy of users,non-availability of programming model and testing software and support for the heterogenous networks.This article highlights these challenges and their potential solutions in detail.This article also discusses threetier fog network architecture,its standardization and benefits in detail.The proposed resource allocation mechanism for three tier fog networks based on swap matching is described.Results show that by practicing the proposed resource allocation mechanism,maximum throughput with reduced latency is achieved. 展开更多

In this paper, we will introduce a new green communication paradigm, the ambient backscatter (AmBC), that could utilize the environmental wireless signals for both powering a tiny-cost device and backscattering the information symbols. Internet of Things (IoT) has drawn much attention in recent years. However, the image data captured by IoT terminal devices are closely related to users, personal information, which are sensitive and should be protected. Though traditional privacy-preserving outsourced computing solutions such as homomorphic cryptographic primitives can support privacy-preserving computing, they consume a significant amount of computation and storage resources. Thus, it becomes a heavy burden on IoT terminal devices with limited resources. In order to reduce the resource consumption of terminal device, we propose an edge-assisted privacy-preserving outsourced computing framework for image processing, including image retrieval and classification. The edge nodes cooperate with the terminal device to protect data and support privacy-preserving computing on the semitrusted cloud server. Under this framework, edge-assisted privacy-preserving image retrieval and classification schemes are proposed in this paper. The security analysis and performance evaluation show that the proposed schemes greatly reduce the computational, communication and storage burden of IoT terminal device while ensuring image data security. 展开更多
