Sustainable feeding of the growing population in China without ecological destabilization is a grand challenge. In this populous country where agriculture is dominated by smallholder farming, developing innovative technology and translating scientific knowledge into action for smallholder farmers is a crucial step in addressing this challenge. Here, we present a novel approach for technology innovation and dissemination to achieve sustainable intensification in the fields of smallholder farmers. The Science and Technology Backyard(STB) is a hub in a rural area that links knowledge with practices to promote technology innovation and exchange. In this study, the framework and functions of STB are introduced, and the key implications for sustainable intensification across millions of smallholder farmers are explicitly stated:(i) develop innovative technology based on stated demands of farmers;(ii) disseminate technology by innovative social service models though combined top-down approaches with bottom-up measures to enable smallholders in rural areas. This paper provides a perspective on transformation of small-scale agriculture toward sustainable intensification in China and useful knowledge applicable to other developing countries. 展开更多

An intelligent manufacturing system is a composite intelligent system comprising humans,cyber systems,and physical systems with the aim of achieving specific manufacturing goals at an optimized level.This kind of intelligent system is called a human-cyber-physical system(HCPS).In terms of technology,HCPSs can both reveal technological principles and form the technological architecture for intelligent manufacturing.It can be concluded that the essence of intelligent manufacturing is to design,construct,and apply HCPSs in various cases and at different levels.With advances in information technology,intelligent manufacturing has passed through the stages of digital manufacturing and digital-networked manufacturing,and is evolving toward new-generation intelligent manufacturing(NGIM).NGIM is characterized by the in-depth integration of new-generation artificial intelligence(AI)technology(i.e.,enabling technology)with advanced manufacturing technology(i.e.,root technology);it is the core driving force of the new industrial revolution.In this study,the evolutionary footprint of intelligent manufacturing is reviewed from the perspective of HCPSs,and the implications,characteristics,technical frame,and key technologies of HCPSs for NGIM are then discussed in depth.Finally,an outlook of the major challenges of HCPSs for NGIM is proposed. 展开更多

The progress and development of narrow linewidth diode laser technique can greatly improve the application of solidstate lidar. The technology and development status of narrow linewidth diode lasers has been described detailly in the paper. And the design ideas, key fabrication technologies and optical characteristics of various narrow linewidth diode lasers have been analyzed and discussed as well. The antenna,as the component of receiving and sending signals in the front end of the wireless communication system,plays an important role in the communication quality,and is often the main obstacle to the development of the miniaturization of the wireless communication system.The microstrip antenna is composed of a metal radiation patch which can be pasted on the dielectric substrate.The choice of the shape of the metal patch can be arbitrary.The conventional shape is usually chosen as the metal patch to simplify the analysis and prediction of its performance.The dielectric constant of the microstrip antenna substrate is relatively low in order to enhance the field intensity of the edge radiation field.However,the dielectric constant of the substrate needs to be greater than 5 in order to meet the needs of other performance of the microstrip antenna,so that the radiation edge effect cannot be enhanced,resulting in the greater contradictions. 展开更多

Technology Importation and Domestic Technology Acquisition in China from the Perspective of Innovation 预览

Foreign and domestic technologies play different roles in a country’s innovation. In recent years, Chinese firms have spent less on importing foreign technology and more on acquiring domestic technology. Based on the panel data model, state space model (SSM) and the Bayesian vector autoregressive model, this paper finds that the purchase of domestic technology plays a critical role in the innovation of high-tech firms with an elasticity coefficient higher than that of technology importation before 2010. China’s high-tech firms can effectively absorb purchased domestic technology, which also brings about an increase in their independent R&D input and contributes more to innovation output than imported technology. Performance of technology importation is lackluster but shows an improving trend. Technology importation is not correlated with innovation output and has a substitutive effect with independent R&D input. China is yet to enhance its absorption of imported technology. Elasticity coefficient of technology importation turned positive in 2007 and increased year by year. China should promote synergy between technology importation and domestic technology acquisition. 展开更多

Fenjiao( Musa Spp. ABB,Pisang Awak subgroup) has been grown by small scale famers because of its stable market price and better sugar-acid blend. However,the traditional Fenjiao variety is susceptible to banana Fusarium wilt,has a high plant height( over 5. 0 m),and farmers lack large-scale planting techniques.Based on the traditional Fenjiao variety,we selected‘Refen 1’variety through mutagenesis technology,which has low temperature resistance,suitable to marginal soils and relatively low plant height( 3. 2-4. 0 m). This paper mainly introduces the major techniques of propagation,cultivation,and post-harvest stages of‘Refen 1’banana,including the selection of explant materials,treatment,disinfection,initial culture,nursery hardening of in vitro-produced banana plants,and transplant of tissue culture seedlings. The major points of the cultivation technology include banana plantation selection and preparation,planting methods,irrigation and fertilizer management,pruning and retaining,and prevention and control of plant diseases and insect pests. 展开更多

Science and technology(S&T)on three-dimensional(3D)bioprinting is growing at an increasingly accelerated pace;one major challenge represents how to develop new solutions for frequent oral diseases such as periodontal problems and loss of alveolar bone.3D bioprinting is expected to revolutionize the health industry in the upcoming years.In dentistry,this technology can become a significant contributor.This study applies a Competitive Technology Intelligence methodology to uncover the main S&T drivers in this domain.Looking at a 6-year period from 2012 to 2018 an analysis of scientific and technology production was made.Three principal S&T drivers were identified:Scaffolds development,analysis of natural and synthetic materials,and the study of scaffold characteristics.Innovative hybrid and multiphasic scaffolds are being developed to regenerate periodontal tissue and alveolar bone by combining them with stem cells from the pulp or periodontal ligament.To improve scaffolds performance,biodegradable synthetic polymers are often used in combination with bioceramics.The characteristics of scaffolds such as fiber orientation,porosity,and geometry,were also investigated.This research contributes to people interested in bringing innovative solutions to the health industry,particularly by applying state-of-the-art technologies such as 3D bioprinting,in this case for dental tissues and dental bone diseases. 展开更多

This will further accelerate the development of broadband in China, and further promote the related industries, especially optical communications technology, systems and devices and the rapid development of electronic information industry, while promoting the metro and trunk optical transport network construction and expansion, and FTTx optical network construction and bandwidth speed. Under the guidance and promotion of the strategy of 'broadband China', China is entering the new period of broadband construction. The three major telecom operators have further accelerated the construction of FTTx optical access network. In order to meet the needs of this development, ultra-high-speed, large capacity, ultra-long distance optical transport network technology research will accelerate;fi ber access technology will be the next generation of broadband optical access network NG PON technology development and evolution.
