For Chinese students,English grammar is significant for both practical application in daily life and various examinations.An increasing number of Chinese English teachers commence the research of the grammar problems of their students.Among these grammar problems,past perfect tense is regarded as one of the most difficult tense for Chinese students.It is of great value to analyze past perfect tense in detail.Therefore,the main purpose of this essay is to summarize Chinese students’problems about past perfect tense and attempt to conclude the reasons of these problems via the study on this tense.In addition to that,practical suggestions will be offered to Chinese English teachers.More research is needed as explanations about students’problems are still insufficient.The essay is structured by 3 parts.In the first part,the different opinions towards past perfect tense from several authors will be discussed.The difficult point of this tense will also be mentioned in this section.The aim of this part is to present various definitions of past perfect tense.The second part is regarding the Chinese students’problems about past perfect tense.This part includes the classification of typical mistakes and the explanation of students’mistakes.The last part is about the feasible solutions of these issues. 展开更多

For the past two decades,the international trade in China has been dramatically on the rise and the professionals talented in business and proficient in English are highly demanded.Thus,a number of universities have set up Business English major and Business English teaching has become the focus of ESP research.This paper discusses Business English teachers’attitude towards business contents;two specific questions are asked:"Is it necessary to teach highly specialized materials in business",and"What should Business English teachers know in order to carry out meaningful classes".It concludes that although it is not necessary to use highly specialized materials in class and teachers don’t need to receive formal academic training,Business English teachers should know something about business in order to carry out productive class activities,and thus are encourage to hold positive attitude towards business contents and humble enough to learn the basics of business. 展开更多

Intercultural Competence Development of Chinese Students After a Short-Term Study Abroad Experience 预览

This study investigated Chinese students’ intercultural competence and linguistic growth during a six-week study abroad program. The students and their professor participated in pre- and post-tests covering written and oral language competency as well as intercultural competence. The Global Scale of English assessed student language development to determine linguistic growth and the Assessment of Intercultural Competence of Chinese College Students (AIC-CCS) was used to determine student growth of intercultural competence skills, specifically related to cultural knowledge, skills, attitudes, and awareness as a result of their experiences in a non-Western context. Results indicated that students experienced a change in the salience of intercultural knowledge themes over their period abroad, as well as improved their individual language abilities. This study provides suggestions for future programming focused on the development of Chinese student intercultural competencies during short-term study abroad experiences in Western university environments. 展开更多

Teaching method, which is defined by Spiro (2013) as the practical action that teachers make in the class, has been stud? ied for a long time. In the past decades, Chinese colleges and universities make great efforts on reform of teaching method to improve the college students’English level. Nevertheless, deficiencies of teaching methods still remain. Up to now, the research in this area mainly center on the comparison between certain teaching methods. It is necessary to discover problems before attempt at new methods. Therefore, the main purpose of this essay is to probe into teaching method for Chinese college students and provide several suggestions for peer teachers. It could be a precious data for my future career. Some limitations still exist. The focus will be the problems of current Chinese college English teaching methods and the possible reasons. Further analysis about feasible teaching methods is needed. The essay is organized by three sections. The first section is an overview of main teaching methods in Chinese universities and colleges. The second section presents the problems of current teaching methods for Chinese college students and their possible explanation. In the third section, some suggestions about the feasible solution towards teaching methods will be provided. 展开更多

China’s Standards of English(CSE)issued by The Ministry of Education Examination Center in June 2018,is mainly used to guide language assessment,and also provides a reference for English language learning and teaching.Based on the assessment results of the visually impaired students’English proficiency using the self-evaluation Level 5 subscale,we can use the scale to implement language proficiency assessment,and can diagnose the English teaching and learning of visually impaired students.It is recommended that the results of the scale assessment be used to strengthen the construction of English courses for visually impaired students,to improve the teaching content and strategies,and implement the process evaluation methods.Students can enhance self-learning and personalized learning based on self-assessment results. 展开更多

A Study on the Cohesion of Course Content between College English and Maritime English 预览

ESP (English for Specific Purposes) and EGP (English for General Purposes) teaching in maritime vocational colleges are new varieties of English teaching in this age. Hence, this research aims to explore an appropriate design of the bridging course content for maritime majors at vocational college by carrying out an empirical experiment. To test the effectiveness of the bridging course design, the pre-experiment and the postexperiment were done on 49 frst-year maritime majors in Jiangsu Maritime Institute by adopting the bridging course. The results of the experiment data revealed that before the experiment was conducted, there was not much difference in the English level between the experimental class and the control class. However, after the experiment, it was found that the bridging course had a positive influence on the English academic achievement of the experimental class, which was superior to that of the control class. Finally, designing a bridging course between College English and Maritime English can covered the following three perspectives: choosing language content, compiling suitable ESP materials and teaching the bridging course on the basis of Needs Analysis. All mentioned above by the author were effective in enhancing students’ awareness of ESP study and College English study efciency but needed to be further explored. 展开更多
