We analyzed and improved a collision avoidance strategy, which was supported by Long Term EvolutionVehicle(LTE-V)-based Vehicle-to-Vehicle(V2 V) communication, for automated vehicles. This work was completed in two steps. In the first step, we analyzed the probability distribution of message transmission time, which was conditional on transmission distance and vehicle density. Our analysis revealed that transmission time exhibited a near-linear increase with distance and density. We also quantified the trade-off between high/low resource reselection probabilities to improve the setting of media access parameters. In the second step, we studied the required safety distance in accordance with the response time, i.e., the transmission time, derived on the basis of a novel concept of Responsibility-Sensitive Safety(RSS). We improved the strategy by considering the uncertainty of response time and its dependence on vehicle distance and density. We performed theoretical analysis and numerical testing to illustrate the effectiveness of the improved robust RSS strategy. Our results enhance the practicability of building driverless highways with special lanes reserved for the exclusive use of LTE-V vehicles. 展开更多

A method-mix for intercultural user interface design (IUID) is explained and exemplified by application examples based on a hybrid approach covering cultural contexts in human-computer interaction (HCI) design using a model of culturally influenced HCI. Cultural influence on HCI is described using cultural variables for user interface design. Assumptions and empirical results regarding the influence of culture on HCI, considering the path of the information processing and the interaction style between Chinese and German users are explained based on cultural models. Subsequent indicators represent the relationship between culture and HCI (culturally imprinted by the user). Correlations adopted theoretically between cultural dimensions and variables for HCI design were investigated. These correlations represent relevant constituents of a model for culturally influenced HCI. Considerations applying this model and evidence for the proper application of the IUID method-mix are presented elucidating why and how cultural aspects play a role in HCI design and usability/UX engineering. The IUID method-mix serves to inspire HCI engineers in the requirement analysis phase as well as HCI designers in the design phase. The readers are thereby sensitized to the challenges of intercultural usability/UX engineering and intercultural HCI design and will be equipped with methodological knowledge relevant to the derivation of design recommendations for user interface design for and in their desired cultural contexts. Finally, implications for practitioners are shown, including HCI style scores and practical design recommendations, to prognosticate the effort and the expenditures for considering the cultural context in IUID. 展开更多

Seed Germination and Their Photon Emission Profile Following Exposure to a Rotating Magnetic Field 预览

A multitude of experiments have applied magnetic fields to plants or seeds and found a variety of different and sometimes contradicting results. A magnetic field generating device called the Chrysalis resonator has been shown to influence the brain activity of human participants, the photon emissions from bacteria, mammalian cell cultures and water. In this experiment sunflower seeds (Helianthus annus) were allowed to begin germination and then exposed to either the field generated by the Chrysalis resonator or a sham condition. Their growth and photon emissions were taken over the next 5 days. It was found that the seeds showed less germination 48 hours after exposure and significantly higher photon emissions when 3 seeds were measured together in a dish, but not if 2 seeds or 1 seed were measured. There were no significant differences in the photon measurements from the water the seeds were germinating in. These results may indicate that the seeds became more sensitive to the presence of neighbouring seeds. The photon emissions results were also significantly impacted by external weather conditions. 展开更多

Analysis of Wide-Bandgap Material OPFET UV Detectors for High Dynamic Range Imaging and Communication Applications 预览

The ultraviolet (UV) photoresponses of Wurtzite GaN, ZnO, and 6H-SiC-based Optical Field Effect Transistor (OPFET) detectors are estimated with an in-depth analysis of the same considering the generalized model and the front-illuminated model for high resolution imaging and UV communication applications. The gate materials considered for the proposed study are gold (Au) and Indium-Tin-Oxide (ITO) for GaN, Au for SiC, and Au and silver dioxide (AgO2) for ZnO. The results indicate significant improvement in the Linear Dynamic Range (LDR) over the previously investigated GaN OPFET (buried-gate, front-illuminated and generalized) models with Au gate. The generalized model has superior dynamic range than the front-illuminated model. In terms of responsivity, all the models including buried-gate OPFET exhibit high and comparable photoresponses. Buried-gate devices on the whole, exhibit faster response than the surface gate models except in the AgO2-ZnO generalized OPFET model wherein the switching time is the lowest. The generalized model enables faster switching than the front-illuminated model. The switching times in all the cases are of the order of nanoseconds to picoseconds. The SiC generalized OPFET model shows the highest 3-dB bandwidths of 11.88 GHz, 36.2 GHz, and 364 GHz, and modest unity-gain cut-off frequencies of 4.62 GHz, 8.71 GHz, and 5.71 GHz at the optical power densities of 0.575 μW/cm2, 0.575 mW/cm2, and 0.575 W/cm2 respectively. These are in overall, the highest detection-cum-amplifi-cation bandwidths among all the investigated devices. The same device exhibits the highest LDR of 73.3 dB. The device performance is superior to most of the other existing detectors along with comparable LDR, thus, emerging as a high performance photodetector for imaging and communication applications. All the detectors show considerably high detectivities owing to the high responsivity values. Food recalls can have very serious aftermath from many points of view: starting from the outbreak consequences on public health, on company’s reputation, sell-out, finance, up to putting at risk the survival of the firm itself. From a formal point of view, a product harm crisis presents similarities with other emergency situations: both of them consist in unpredictable events, often due to unknown or undervalued causes, which can significantly alter normal business and compromise the safety of the company, of its employees and customers. Given the potential damage resulting from a dangerous product crisis, it is surprising that in the food industry alongside mere procedures (often reducible to botched manuals compiled solely because their presence reassures auditors and authorities) there is still little attention to an approach based on a method. Formal corporate procedures (manuals and crisis management plans) are important, but can cause a false sense of security and preparedness, if executives do not possess an adequate crisis management culture, which depends, as well as on experience and training, also on the ability to assume the correct behavioral posture, and which involves psychological, organizational and communicational skills that can not be undervalued. The purpose of this article is to provide a practical approach based on the experience of crisis-management (applied in emergency situations by health professionals, armed forces and civil protection) useful to support food industry during a food recall, in order to avoid the most classic errors that can undermine speed of reaction, corrective measures effectiveness and leadership, in the most delicate moments for a company life. If it is true the way a firm manages the recall affects its impact, it is necessary to assess the fundamental factors to be observed at such times: timeliness, lucidity, responsibility, leadership. 展开更多

The proposed mobile application will provide optimal communication to several parties in the healthcare sector such as patients, doctors and pharmacists for better healthcare services and delivery. The software development methodology adopted was Object Oriented Analysis and Design Methodology (OOADM). Broadcast encryption (BE) allows a sender to broadcast its message to a set of receivers in a single ciphertext. However, in broadcast encryption scheme, ciphertext length is always related to the size of the receiver set. Thus, how to improve the communication of broadcast encryption is a big issue. In this paper, we proposed an identity-based homomorphic broadcast encryption scheme which supports an external entity to directly calculate ciphertexts and get a new ciphertext which is the corresponding result of the operation on plaintexts without decrypting them. The correctness and security proofs of our scheme were formally proved. Finally, we implemented our scheme in a simulation environment and the experiment results showed that our scheme is efficient for practical applications. 展开更多

It is vital to examine their gains in an interprofessional education (IPE). Purpose: We aimed to examine the perceived benefits of interprofessional team-based learning (IPTBL) on the entry level nursing students. Methods: Content analysis was adopted to identify categories in the reflections of the entry-level undergraduate nursing student IPTBL experiences. Results: There were 205 (male = 34) undergraduate nursing students (response rate 82.2%) participating in the present study. In line with the Interprofessional Education Collaborative Report (IPEC) core competencies, four categories were identified: 1) Values/Ethics for Interprofessional Practice, 2) Roles/Responsibilities, 3) Interprofessional Communication, and 4) Teams and Teamwork. A new category emerged—individual learning outcomes. Conclusion: Through IP interactions and the expectation of the IP team, the nursing students had built confidence and defined the nurses’ roles. 展开更多
