High-temperature investigation of mould slag crystallization by single and double hot thermocouple techniques

Methods for the characterization of mould slag crystallization with special emphasis on the single/double hot thermocouple technique(SHTT/DHTT)are reviewed.In the continuous casting process of steels,horizontal heat transfer is mainly influenced by the crystallization behaviour of the mould flux film.Here,both precipitation of crystals out of a liquid phase and devitrification of the glassy film in contact with the mould are of main interest.Therefore,various investigation methods are implemented to characterize different slag properties related to crystallization:a viscometer for determining the break temperature,differential thermal analysis(DTA),confocal scanning laser microscopy,and the water-cooled copper finger test.For near-service conditions,DHTT reveals the most detailed information,including not only the crystallization or devitrification temperature but also the morphology as well as the crystallization velocity.Due to improvements in the device and the representation of the results,a comparison of different samples is possible.Nevertheless,the application field of SHTT/DHTT is restricted to slag systems with low contents of evaporating components.Furthermore,the time required for data analysis is significantly longer than that required for other methods,e.g.DTA.Therefore,the application of DHTT is mainly advisable for mould slag research and development,whereas DTA can also be used for incoming inspections. 展开更多

It has been 10 years since we published the first report describing use of the ShangRing for circumcision in boys and men. That report, by Peng et al.{ from China, showed that the device was safe and that ShangRing circumcision was quicker than with conventional surgical techniques commonly used. The ShangRing, pictured in Figure 1, isa novel collar clamp circumcision device that was invented by Mu Jian-Zhong Shang in China in the early 2000s to reduce potential surgical complications following male circumcision. Based on its successful use in 2006, Mr. Shang started SNNDA Medical Company to produce and distribute the ShangRing. The device has two parts consisting of an inner ring and an outer ring. The foreskin is sandwiched between the two rings, ensuring hemostasis without the need for suturing, which greatly simplifies the circumcision. The device is typically removed by a clinician 7-10 days later. 展开更多

The galvanic corrosion of the Q-phase/Al couple in 0.1 M NaCl solutions has been studied using the scanning vibrating electrode technique (SVET)f the scanning ion-selective electrode technique (SIET) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). The galvanic corrosion of the Q-phase/Al couple was found to be dependent on pH and immersion time. Current density maps obtained by SVET shows that the anodic oxidation processes emerge from Al in a localized manner in pH 2 and 6 solutions but is initiated in a uniform manner in pH 13 solution, whereas, the cathodic processes are more homogeneously distributed over the Q-phase at pH 2.6 and 13. It is seen that the Q-phase remains cathodic in the Q-phase/Al couple in acidic, neutral and alkaline solutions indicating that the galvanic polarity of the Q-phase is independent of pH. The effect of the galvanic corrosion was largest at pH 2 and 13 compared to pH 6. The pH map obtained by SIET indicates that the galvanic activity of the Q-phase/Al couple proceeds via heavy alkalization of the Q-phase surface with the generation of appreciable amounts of OH~ ions. The enrichment of Cu indicated by EDX is responsible for the observed cathodic activity of the Q-phase in the Q-phase/Al couple. 展开更多

Cold-finger measurements were used to estimate the contact resistance and average thermal conductivity of mold flux films solidified on a water-cooled copper probe.Five industrial mold fluxes,with basicities from low to high,were tested.The steady-state rate of convective heat transfer between the solid film and liquid flux was compared with calculations based on natural convection correlations;the comparison indicates that the surface of the solid film(in contact with molten flux)is approximately at its solidus temperature.The roughness of the mold flux film in contact with copper was larger for films grown from higher-temperature mold flux and for higher-basicity mold fluxes.The glassy(low-basicity)film had an estimated thermal conductivity of 1.1 W/(m K).The crystalline or partially crystalline films had higher estimated thermal conductivities of 2.2-3.2 W/(m K).The measured values of thermal resistance were extrapolated to typical mold flux film thicknesses for industrial conditions;the extrapolations confirmed that the high contact resistance of higher-basicity mold fluxes can yield higher thermal resistances than the low-basicity flux.The morphology of the rough interface of higherbasicity mold flux films that gives the higher contact resistance is consistent with that observed in previous work and appears not to be directly related to crystallization. 展开更多

As one of the ideal tools for monitoring the formation and evolution of solar storms, the vacuum ultraviolet(VUV) detector should have both a fast temporal response and an array structure that enables image formation.Here, by combining a nontraditional graphene processing technique with traditional metal organic chemical vapor deposition epitaxy technology, we created hybrid heterostructure(HH) arrays of p-Gr/AlN/p-Si with VUV photovoltaic response capability and silicon integration potential. The HH arrays not only exhibit ultrafast temporal response(rise time of only 120 ns) and an extremely high Ion∕Ioff ratio of 107, but also achieve the imaging demonstration of a VUV pattern for the first time. The HH technique provides a possible new path for the development of VUV imaging devices. 展开更多

In the recent literature concerning the multi-propped bottom-up technique Shanghai Metro Stations Excavations, there is evidence of the importance of the disturbance in terms of greater wall horizontal deflections and consequently vertical settlements in the neighbouring, caused by the late long time of open -cut excavation without propping. Here is proposed, theoretical and pragmatic at the same time, a new approach to face the problem of the wall deflections and the related vertical settlements behind the wall. The solution proposed is indeed to impede any formation of the incipient sliding in the active wedge soil rupture surface, by oblique piling crossing over the rupture surface through a longer pile penetration length in relation to the active wedge before any excavation process starts. This piled-construction will then cut to shape the excavation profiles recurring to loss of piles material. This solution is particularly fit for high seismicity prone areas, because of the minor relative loss of per unit length of pile, caused by the greater depth of the rupture surfaces to get and cross over. 展开更多

This paper presents a procedure for assessing the reinforcement force of geosynthetics required for maintaining dynamic stability of a steep soil slope.Such a procedure is achieved with the use of the discretization technique and kinematic analysis of plasticity theory,i.e.discretization-based kinematic analysis.The discretization technique allows discretization of the analyzed slope into various components and generation of a kinematically admissible failure mechanism based on an associated flow rule.Accordingly,variations in soil properties including soil cohesion,internal friction angle and unit weight are accounted for with ease,while the conventional kinematic analysis fails to consider the changes in soil properties.The spatialetemporal effects of dynamic accelerations represented by primary and shear seismic waves are considered using the pseudo-dynamic approach.In the presence of geosynthetic reinforcement,tensile failure is discussed providing that the geosynthetics are installed with sufficient length.Equating the total rates of work done by external forces to the internal rates of work yields the upper bound solution of required reinforcement force,below which slopes fail.The reinforcement force is sought by optimizing the objective function with regard to independent variables,and presented in a normalized form.Pseudo-static analysis is a special case and hence readily transformed from pseudodynamic analysis.Comparisons of the pseudo-static/dynamic solutions calculated in this study are highlighted.Although the pseudo-static approach yields a conservative solution,its ability to give a reasonable result is substantiated for steep slopes.In order to provide a more meaningful solution to a stability analysis,the pseudo-dynamic approach is recommended due to considerations of spatial etemporal effect of earthquake input. 展开更多

On-Machine Measurement of the Straightness and Tilt Errors of a Linear Slideway Using a New Four-Sensor Method

Although there are some multi-sensor methods for measuring the straightness and tilt errors of a linear slideway, they need to be further improved in some aspects, such as suppressing measurement noise and reducing precondition.In this paper, a new four-sensor method with an improved measurement system is proposed to on-machine separate the straightness and tilt errors of a linear slideway from the sensor outputs, considering the influences of the reference surface profile and the zero-adjustment values. The improved system is achieved by adjusting a single sensor to di erent positions. Based on the system, a system of linear equations is built by fusing the sensor outputs to cancel out the e ects of the straightness and tilt errors. Three constraints are then derived and supplemented into the linear system to make the coe cient matrix full rank. To restrain the sensitivity of the solution of the linear system to the measurement noise in the sensor outputs, the Tikhonov regularization method is utilized. After the surface profile is obtained from the solution, the straightness and tilt errors are identified from the sensor outputs. To analyze the e ects of the measurement noise and the positioning errors of the sensor and the linear slideway, a series of computer simulations are carried out. An experiment is conducted for validation, showing good consistency. The new four-sensor method with the improved measurement system provides a new way to measure the straightness and tilt errors of a linear slideway, which can guarantee favorable propagations of the residuals induced by the noise and the positioning errors. 展开更多

Galvanic corrosion of tri-metallic couples is more complicated than that of bi-metallic couples. In this study, the effect of the pH of corrosive media on the galvanic corrosion of 2024 A1 alloy/Q235 mild steel/304 stainless steel tri-metallic couples was investigated using potentiodynamic polarization, scanning electron microscopy, scanning vibrating electrode technique and a multi-channel galvanic corrosion meter. The results show that 2024 always acts as the only anode in 3.5 wt% NaCl at pH 5.56,9.72 and 12.0, while both Q235 and 2024 act as anodes at pH 2.39 in the initial stage and then the role of Q235 changes at longer coupling time, which can be attributed to the effect of pH on the surface film of 2024. It is also found that the galvanic current density of a tri-metallic couple is the superposition of two bi-metallic couples when cathodic reactions are controlled by the diffusion of oxygen, otherwise it is smaller than that of the sum of two bi-metallic couples. The localized corrosion instead of uniform corrosion of anodic metal is accelerated by galvanic corrosion. 展开更多

目的评价结核感染T细胞斑点试验和结核抗体在肺结核诊断中的应用价值。方法疑似结核住院患者544例(2015.11-2016.11)的痰标本同时使用T-SPOT.TB试剂盒和2种结核抗体金标试剂进行检测,并做抗酸染色涂片及结核分枝杆菌固体培养。结果根据... 目的评价结核感染T细胞斑点试验和结核抗体在肺结核诊断中的应用价值。方法疑似结核住院患者544例(2015.11-2016.11)的痰标本同时使用T-SPOT.TB试剂盒和2种结核抗体金标试剂进行检测,并做抗酸染色涂片及结核分枝杆菌固体培养。结果根据细菌学诊断和临床诊断标准,菌阳肺结核患者210例,菌阴肺结核患者268例,非结核病患者(对照组)66例。T-SPOT.TB检测菌阳的敏感性为84.28%(177/210),菌阴的敏感性为76.87%(206/268),T-SPOT.TB在菌阳组与菌阴组敏感性差异无统计学意义,P>0.05。TB-DOT和ASSURE TB抗体检测对菌阳肺结核患者检测敏感性分别为64.28%(135/210)和62.85%(132/210),对菌阴肺结核患者检测敏感性44.77%(120/268)和39.55%(106/268),抗体检测在菌阳组与菌阴组敏感性差异有统计学意义,P<0.05;TSPOT.TB与抗体检测方法在诊断结核病敏感性的差异有统计学意义(χ2=77.202和96.618,均P<0.05),尤其对菌阴患者有显著差异。T-SPOT.TB检测特异性为78.79%(52/66),TB-DOT和ASSURE TB特异性分别为77.27%(51/66)和75.76%(50/66),两种方法特异性无统计学差异,P>0.05。结论 T-SPOT.TB试验和结核抗体检测对结核病血清学诊断具有辅助价值;T-SPOT.TB试验对菌阴肺结核的灵敏度优于结核抗体,二者阴性结果有助于排除结核菌感染。 展开更多

AIM: To compare and evaluate the clinical outcomes of deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty (DALK) and excimer laser assisted anterior lamellar keratoplasty (ELLK) in eyes with keratoconus. METHODS: In this study, 57 eyes of 56 patients operated between 2013 to 2017 were included. Thirty-one eyes underwent big-bubble DALK and twenty-six eyes underwent ELLK. Preoperative and at control visits complete ophthalmic examination was performed. RESULTS: The mean patient age at the time of DALK surgery was 27y and mean follow-up period was 21±5.4mo. The mean patient age at the time of ELLK surgery was 27y and mean follow-up period was 40±18mo. Mean best spectacle corrected visual acuity (BSCVA) at postoperative period was significantly higher for DALK group (0.66±0.11) versus ELLK group (0.4±0.2)(P<0.05). Descemet’s membrane microperforation was occurred in 7 patients in DALK group versus in 1 patient in ELLK group. In 4 eyes, interface irregularity was developed in ELLK group. None of the patients in follow-up had graft rejection in both groups. CONCLUSION: In ELLK group, complication rate is lower, the surgical technique is simpler, faster and safer and also ELLK requires less experience with respect to DALK. Further, DALK can be performed unless satisfactory visual acuity is achieved after ELLK. 展开更多

Objective: To design a scientific, feasible caring training content for nurse managers. Methods: Training content came from review of literature;all the content were sorted out, analyzed, and compiled by the research team. Then, a Delphi method was used to collect opinions from experts on the caring training contents. Results: A 22-member multidisciplinary panel was engaged in a two-round Delphi process to assess the importance of the items and to identify any additional elements. Consensus was obtained on 23 items that belonged to four modules. There were 10 items related to caring knowledge and caring ability, six items related to caring leadership, three items related to caring education, and four items related to caring research. Conclusions: The four-module integrated training contents achieved in this study represented the core caring knowledge and skills that a nurse manager who worked in hospital needed to know. Nurse managers can choose any module to have a system learning according to their practical needs, totally or separately. 展开更多
