Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, China and France have conducted in-depth exchanges and cooperation in economic, political and cultural fields, with visible results. The year 2019 marks the 40 th anniversary of China’s reform and opening up. The process of China’s reform and opening up is also closely related to the development of the relationship between China and France, which runs through the whole process of reform and opening up. The author started working at the France Division of the Western European Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1977, and his following 40-year diplomatic career is basically related to the Sino-France relations. This paper reviews the ups and downs of Sino-France relations since the establishment of the diplomatic relations and China’s reform and opening up, and explores the development as well as the significance of Sino-France relations and China’s reform and opening up.
