In order to investigate the lethal mechanism of pulsed microwave on weevil, the microwave effect on weevil mortality, apparent morphology and the activity of alkaline phosphatase and acetylcholinesterase were evaluated. The results showed that pulsed microwave caused the weevil death and abnormity of weevil mouth parts and rump and decreased the activity of alkaline phosphatase and acetylcholinesterase. There was a significant positive correlation between the lethal rate of weevil and the rice temperature： the lethal rate was 100% when the rice temperature was over 56℃. There was a significant negative correlation between acetylcholinesterase activity and the lethal rate of weevil ： the lethality rate of weevil was over 80% when acetylcholinesterase activity was lower than 0.3 U/gpro. The weevils were killed by synergistic effect of thermal and non - thermal effects under pulsed microwave. Pulsed microwaves may kill the weevil by causing the inactivation of functional biomacromolecules such as acetylcholinesterase and abnormalities of the mouth parts and rump under combined effect of thermal and non - thermal effect.
