The waterborne alkyd resin was synthesized by fatty acid method, using linoleic acid, phthalic anhydride, isophthalic acid, trimethylolpropane, dihydroxy methyl-propionic acid and maleic anhydride linseed oil as the main materials and modified by epoxy resin to prepare dually ambient-curable epoxy modified waterborne alkyd resin, drier and organic amine were added to cure after its neutralization. The factors that affect the performance of the resin were studied, such as the dosage of maleic anhydride linseed oil, the types and dosage of epoxy resin, the types drier and curing agent. The optimal conditions were determined as follows： the dosage of maleic anhydride linseed oil was 12%- 16%, epoxy resin E-20 was 15%- 20%, the drying agent was a compound type, triethylenetetramine was chosen as curing agent. The properties of epoxy modified waterborne alkyd resin were as follows： table dry was 2 h, hard work was 12 h, the level of pencil hardness was H, the level of adhesion was 1, it had good performance of stability and salt spray resistance.
