Objective To develop a nurse managers＇ leadership indicator system and to provide a scientific assessment tool for evaluation of nurse managers＇ leadership. Methods The candidate indicators were selected based on literature review as well as ＇five forces model＇ of leadership developed by Chinese Academy of Sciences. A semi-structured interview guide was developed and used to interview clinical nurses,nurse managers,nursing department directors,doctors,etc. The indicators were determined by 32 clinical nurse specialists,nurse administrators from more than 10 provinces or cities through two rounds of expert consultation. Results The recovery rate of questionnaire in two rounds was bothl00% ,and recovery efficiency was 96.9% and 93.8% ,respectively; the authority coefficient in two rounds was 0.83 and 0.84,respectively. The coefficient of variation of each item ranged from 0.00 to 0.19 in the second round. The leadership indicator system consisted of 5 first-level indicators, 14 second- level indicators and 52 third-level indicators. Conclusion The nurse managers＇ leadership indicator system has been developed using Delphi method,which provides a scientific assessment tool for evaluation of nurse managers＇ leadership.
