The shortages of the traditional methods for eliminating weld residual stress have been introduced. The mechanism of eliminating weld residual stress using ultrasonic has been investigated based on the micro-dislocation. The grain sliding and dislocation at the welding zone have been observed by transmission electron microscope before and after ultrasonic impacting, and the welding residual stress has been measured by X-ray integral method both before and after ultrasonic impacting as well. The analysis result confirms that the grains at welding zone slide from high energy position to low energy position after ultrasonic impact, therefore the residual stress would be released.
