To understand the self-curing effect of polyacrylate super-absorbent polymer（SAP） in high performance concrete（HPC）, the hydration of cement paste incorporating polyacrylate SAP under hot and dry condition was investigated. Varying amounts of polyacrylate SAP were added to cement paste, the specimens were exposed to a temperature of 35 ℃ and a relative humidity of 10% for 56 d. The degree of hydration of cement paste with various mixture designs was measured by thermogravimetry（TG）. Moreover, the conclusion was testified by X-ray diffraction （XRD）. The results show that the higher degree of hydration and more uniform in hydration were found in cement paste with polyacrylate SAP compared with the specimens without polyacrylate SAP. The study suggests polyacrylate SAP could be used as a self-curing agent in HPC.
