Objective To study the characteristics of epidemiolngy among the emergency patients in a comprehensive hospital. Methods The patients＇ data, including sex, age, visiting time, occupation, visiting method, emergency diagnosis or chief complaints were analyzd. Results 57636 questionairs were returned from the emergency patients, accounting for 98.06% of the total emergency patients in the whole year. Male to female ratio was 1.27 to 1 among the patients. The patients were centralized at ages of 0-9 years old, 20 - 29 years old and 30 - 39 years old and in April, May and June.The everyday peak time was 18：00 - 23： 00, which accounted for 48.74% of the whole day＇s number. The top three occupations were students, official staff and workers. 44.46% of patients came to the hospital by taxi or car, 16.12% by bus, 11.53% by ambulance. Trauma patients accounted for 73.37% of the surgical patients. Admission rate was 17.73%. Besides trauma and fever, 20 more diagnosis and chief complaints were reported. Conclusion ①Men＇s health, safety education and treatment improvement is important for human health and science development; ②Emergency department is one of the most important unitd responding to the public health events, which should have lash-up schemes; ③Aceording to the emergency visit density, work should be scientifically arranged; ④The scope of emergency service is relatively small and emergency patients are the main source of admitted patients; ⑤The model of pre-hospital first aid-first aid in emergeney room-emergency or central ICU-is in consistent with the development of emergency medicine; ⑥The common diagnosis and chief complaints are valuable in training emergency staff.
